Every connector declares its cadence, whether it needs a key, and whether its data may be re-served. A source marked non-redistributable is display-only: it is excluded from the public API and from exports.

Six states, and what each does to the screen

Not connected is a state, not an error.

live

Fresh within one expected cadence.

delayed

Inherently behind real time — end-of-day, +15m. Normal, not an error.

stale

Older than twice the cadence. Values lose their colour.

partial

Some rows arrived. The missing ones hatch, never zero.

down

Last fetch failed. Last-good is retained but visibly demoted.

not connected

No connector exists yet. A first-class state, hollow rather than filled.

What a key unlocks

Blank disables a connector cleanly.

Leaving a variable empty is a supported configuration. The panels it would have fed say which key is missing rather than breaking.
